Whether you prefer on-roof (exterior) or under-roof (interior) awnings, or vertical awnings for front glazing, the right solution depends on the design, orientation, and intended use – we'll work with you to plan the optimal combination. Below you'll find our sun protection solutions for conservatories.

Exterior conservatory awnings (roof-mounted awnings)

Conservatory awnings mounted on the roof stop the sun's energy from reaching the glazing. This significantly reduces the heating of the glass and frames – the indoor climate remains noticeably cooler, even on the hottest days. Highly recommended for large glass roofs, south-facing conservatories, or exposed locations where the sun shines on the conservatory for extended periods and with great intensity.

Monitoring with weather sensors is recommended

An externally mounted conservatory awning, when extended, is naturally exposed to all weather conditions. In heavy rain or wind, the awning must be retracted to protect the fabric and mechanism. For this reason, we recommend equipping it with weather sensors, which allow the awning to shade your conservatory more or less automatically.

  • Sensors: Wind and sun sensors automatically extend the awning in strong sunlight and retract it in time during storms – for protection and energy efficiency.

  • Smart home integration: Control via app, voice assistant, or scenes (e.g., "Summer Midday", "Evening Coolness"). Optionally with schedules, weather data, and geofencing.

Conservatory awnings – mounted inside (under glass): Advantages & disadvantages

Under-glass mounted conservatory awnings sit protected beneath the glazing. They discreetly control light and view, maintain a clean appearance, and are ideal when external mounting is not desired or is structurally challenging.

Advantages:

  • Weatherproof and durable: Technology and fabric remain dry – less soiling, less maintenance.

  • Quieter, smoother operation: Protected guidance and taut fabric technology for smooth extension and retraction.

  • Elegant integration: Slim cassette, concealed rails – the architecture remains the focus.

Disadvantages:

  • Less heat protection than on the outside: The solar energy first hits the glass, some of the heat gets into the room.

  • Pay attention to heat dissipation: Ventilation and shading must be coordinated, otherwise heat will build up under the roof and the awning will not provide the desired benefit.
