Open folding arm awnings - classic
Sun protection meets modern diversity

Offene Gelenkarmmarkise

Product overview of open folding arm awnings

An open folding-arm awning does not have a protective cassette. This means that both the mechanism and the fabric roller itself are visible when retracted and are not protected from the elements.

This awning model is particularly well-suited for locations where existing structural features, such as a roof overhang or canopy, already provide sufficient protection from rain and sun. Find the right model for your needs in the overview below.

What are open folding arm awnings?

Detailed explanation of the construction of an open folding arm awning

Open folding-arm awnings belong to the proven product family of tube awnings. With this design, the entire awning system – including folding arms, roller tube, and drive mechanism – is mounted on a continuous, sturdy support tube. This technology ensures high stability and flexible mounting options, as the mounting brackets can be moved along the support tube. This allows for even force distribution – ideal even for larger widths or projections.

Flexible sun protection for sheltered installation locations

MOBAU's open folding-arm awnings are the ideal choice for balconies, patios, or seating areas that are well protected from above – for example, by roof overhangs, ceilings, or balconies above. Their open design without a cassette allows for compact and discreet installation. Important to note: The rolled-up awning fabric remains unprotected and should therefore not be permanently exposed to the elements. For this reason, these awnings are particularly suitable for sheltered installation locations.

Diverse selection and individual features

MOBAU offers a wide selection of open folding-arm awnings with different designs, sizes, tilt angles, and operating options. Whether classic hand crank operation or convenient radio-controlled motor – you decide the level of comfort. Numerous colors and patterns are also available for the fabric designs, to suit any architectural style.

High-quality articulated arm technology for optimal fabric tension

The robust articulated arms are made of durable, powder-coated aluminum and feature integrated high-performance tension springs and a maintenance-free, four-strand steel cable system. This ensures optimal tension of the awning fabric at all times and guarantees a taut projection, even with frequent use. The drop-forged arm forks provide maximum resistance to breakage.

Conclusion:

Advantages

  • A cost-effective solution compared to semi- or full-cassette awnings.

  • Lightweight construction – flat design.

  • Ideal for mounting under eaves and on roof rafters.

  • Flexibly expandable with a protective roof if additional weather protection is desired.

Disadvantages

  • Reduced weather protection: The fabric and technology are exposed and more susceptible to the elements without a roof covering.

  • Increased cleaning effort due to dirt and weather influences

  • Shorter lifespan compared to full cassette awnings if they are installed unprotected.

  • Visually less "tidy" than closed cassette solutions
