Awnings in snow - correct behavior

An awning provides reliable sun and weather protection, but is not designed to withstand snow loads . Especially in winter, the question often arises as to how an awning should be used correctly in snow to avoid damage.

Snow can become very heavy due to moisture and compaction. If it remains on an extended awning, it puts a heavy strain on the awning fabric, arms, and mounting hardware. This can lead to material damage, malfunctions, or long-term problems.

Our recommendation as a German awning manufacturer is clear: In snow, frost, or sub-zero temperatures, the awning should always be fully retracted. Removing snow from an extended awning is also not recommended, as this can damage the fabric or the mechanism.

Modern weather protection systems increase safety, but do not replace proper handling of the awning in winter.

With high-quality manufacturing and proper use, the awning remains reliable and durable even after the cold season.
